Needing some new TV!

So with House ending I have an open slot in my frequented TV series. I still have Mad Men and The Office but I'm ready for something new.

I've tried Big Bang Theory and could never get into it. I'm much more an IT Crowd kind of girl. Tried 2 Broke Girls...I think it's called...and couldn't even get through the first episode! Yuck...

Now I did attempt Shameless, and that show is for sure a keeper! Very awesome. Any other suggestions? I do also enjoy the Finder but the storyline involving the characters is too weak and I don't stay interested enough to look forward to the next episode. It's more of a "well I have nothing else to watch" kind of show. I also have Game of Thrones waiting for me but find I need to be in a certain mindset to watch.

Some others that I've seen through to the end was:
-Scrubs (twice)
-Arrested Development (twice)
-the L Word
-6 Feet Under
-Dexter (the first few seasons...lost interest after the baby was born)
-Secret Diary of a Call Girl
-Carnival
-Weeds (3 times)
-Lost
-Breaking Bad

...all I can think of right now. Anyone with similar taste offer suggestions? I've also wanted to check out more of Modern Family, I hear it's good.

Comfort food...

Spicy soup always cures what ails me. Since $ is tight I just made Itchiban and added a ton of cayenne. Wow...but oh so good.

Dark Shadows

Ok Tim Burton...wtf. Even though you are my favorite director/producer I will forgive certain thing...like 9. But I must say you sure missed out on some opportunities with Dark Shadows. I will give him props for the atmosphere, special effects and actor selection. However these pluses do not make up for the lack of story line and comedy. A vampire from the 1700s comes back in the 1970s and you don't run with that a little more? Sigh...

A few things to note, first I will say my dear Johnny is way hotter as a pirate! Then again the vampire thing never really did it for me at all.

Michelle Pfeiffer looks AMAZING for being 54 years old. I'm not sure she's changed and I could see some of the Catwoman qualities coming through in Dark Shadows. The other acceptable item I will admit is the casting of Eva Green as Angelique. The way she speaks drives me to the point of wanting to rip my ears off, however in this case she made an excellent witch. And staring at her body and seductive outfits made her almost bearable.

In the end, after all this pointless rambling, it was not horrible but it wasn't great. It could have been oh so much more and I'm sad Mr. Burton missed this opportunity. The bits of comedy were good and there should have been so much more! I love Burton films and have the same amount of strange in my taste for movies as he provides in them.

On a side note, for some reason during Dark Shadows I kept having flashbacks of Death Becomes her...that odd comedy horror I guess.

I guess he better make up for it with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I have high hopes for that one and you better not disappoint Timmy my boy!

Want!

Love this shirt! Some day...

Lunch

I really need to get back on track!

Oh yum...

So I finally decided to try my hand at those mini corndog muffins I keep seeing on Pinterest. I used the following recipe:

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil (melted)
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk (I mixed 1 tbsp lemon juice and enough milk to make 1 cup and let stand for 5 minutes)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup organic cornmeal
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Free range pork smokies cut into 1/2" pieces
I mixed the wet and dry separately and then combined. Dropped 1 TBSP of batter in a mini muffin tin and pressed down the smokie bites.

I then baked for 12 minutes at 375F. I found the pieces with the smokie cooked for about 15 minutes and the ones without were done faster. Cook until the cornbread is browning. Anyway these were amazing and I think I may try with cheese smokies as well!

The beats of life...

Ever drive down the street and notice that life is in tune with your music? I had one of those today. Life matched the beats, people walking down the street, the turning arrow on the traffic lights etc.

In the wise words of Beavis, "It's sort of like, it's like... um like a music video!"

Mmmm

Mixed greens and baby spinach topped with cottage cheese and spicy peanut tuna.

Healing so nicely

It's finally healing up, starting to be worth all the pain and hassle!

What's wrong with me...

I hate shrimp! Don't I?

...

What's more embarrassing?

So, do you want to know what's more embarrassing then pulling up next to a hot guy in a nice car (windows down) blaring C & C Music Factory in my VW? Well I'll tell you. Having C & C Music Factory end to start Cotton Eye Joe (Rednex) while still sitting there!!! Teaches me for playing random CDs I find in my glove compartment that have been there for who knows how long...

At least I made someone smile today. :)

Shrimp

For some reason I've always hated shrimp. At a conference this weekend my coworker talked me into trying it again as she said the stuff they served was amazing. So I tried it and am weirded out to say that I actually enjoyed it! Unfortunately she informed me it is rarely that tender!!

I was driving...

I was driving to work the other day and You Shook me All Night Long started playing on my CD. I was singing and grooving and as I sat at a red light I look at the car in front of me. The car had a bumper-sticker that said "I saw ACDC". What are the chances that I'm grooving to them while driving behind a car with that on it lol

Nothing like...

There is nothing like cutting a small piece off what you think is a block of cheese found in your work fridge, putting the piece in your mouth, biting down to discover it was hard BUTTER!!! Yuck...

Funny...

BBQ RULES:
We are about to enter the BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity. When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:

Routine...

(1) The woman buys the food.

(2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables and makes dessert.

(3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - drink in hand.

(4) The woman remains outside the compulsory three meter exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman.

Here comes the important part:
(5) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.

More routine...

(6) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.

(7) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another drink while he flips the meat.

Important again:
(8) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.

More routine...

(9) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauce and brings them to the table.

(10) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.

And most important of all:

(11) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts.

(12) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed her 'night off,' and, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing some women.

Mmm snack

So on my quest for health but balancing the stress-eater side of me I needed to find a 17 Day Diet friendly snack.

This is what I got. Boiled eggs, mashed with a little mayo, mustard put on cucumbers instead of crackers! Mmmmm

My therapy

My supper

Cod baked in cream mushroom paprika sauce poured over broccoli. Mmmmmmmm

Breakfast

Cottage cheese and blackberries, surprisingly good!

Now I need to put away the umbrella

The song today...

For some reason this song played on the radio yesterday on my way to work and today on my way home from work. I remember hearing this song but NEVER realized or would have guessed that it was Bruce!

Love it:

Good excuse...

Well no phone call but on a better note I just made the most amazing piña colada ever!

1 can of the bicardi piña colada frozen concentrate, 1 can Captain Morgan's coconut rum (which I just discovered) and 2 cans ice. Bliss I tell you!

Power of the mind...

I WILL get a phone call with good news today!

Well that made me laugh...

I'm so happy I tried Zumba in my own living room with the lights down low. Was retry fun, got me active and kept my mind busy, but man I bet I looked like a giraffe trying to salsa or something.

My power breakfast!

Greek yogurt, spinach and berries.

On a funnier note...

On a funnier note I had to share this screenshot from my phone. I'm a stress eater and being on a diet at this time is difficult so I was going to google "can I eat popcorn while on the 17 day diet". Well as I entered "can I eat" I was a little shocked to see the top result...

It might not be ok...

I keep hearing everything from 'you're fine' to 'that's normal'. Yes there is a slip chance of 1% that a lump on the neck is something bad but, I bet everyone told that 1% the same thing. "You're fine, oh that's normal." Well for that 1% they weren't fine and no it wasn't normal.

I am not at all saying I am the 1%, just justification that there is a chance. Justification does not mean I will worry more, I won't become depressed, sit and mope, cry about it (anymore). It's just the validation that it CAN be something bad, instead of always discounting that possibility. That I am not insane worrying and I'm tired of everyone telling me that everything is fine. Not one person has said yes it can be something and if it is we'll work through it. I realize everyone is being reassuring and comforting because they care about me and don't want me to worry, but I feel so alone and like I have no one to talk to. I am taking everything as it comes, all in stride and if it is something bad I can't sit there dumbfounded and say "But everyone said I'd be fine." I'd rather absorb that possibility and that it is now reality and move forward. And if it is nothing I will jump for joy, cry in the sun and walk around...hugging trees or something.

The bottom line is I am happy to be alive and healthy now. I am making changes in my life to live better, healthier and with fewer regrets. I will continue moving forward, whatever that direction will be...but in reality there are 2 roads and we shall see which one is on my map.

Today could be worse...

Today did not go as I'd hoped. I can't decide right now if it's better to just not know some things or to have very thorough doctors...do I wish she lied to me and gave me the clean bill of health...kind of. Maybe hearing it from a surgeon will be even more satisfying...or catching something early and have the option to do something about it should be priceless right? ...right?

Waiting...

Sitting, waiting for a life changing appointment. I will take what comes but good or bad there will be changes...

Today...

That's right...

I'm playing Jenga

Bananas

So I bought the bananas on the left at Save On Foods. They are organic, bought them last weekend and had to make sure I used them up today so they are in the dehydrator as we speak.

The ones on the right I bought at Walmart over 3 weeks ago. They are also supposed to be organic but still don't even look eatable. They aren't green but definitely not ripe. Some weird state in the middle. Another reason to add to my list of why I don't like shopping at Walmart.

So now you tell me!

Mmm supper

I love when...

...the scale gives me good news. 3 more lbs to my goal and the 10 I gained during practicum are lost! Probably would have been easier if I could have exercised instead of hobbling around for the past week!

Love it

I hate that...

Ordered a Schrute farms shirt in women's medium and it's HUGE! Second time from Teefury, last time I order from them!

My lunch...

Needs me some energy boosting food!

This sure hit the spot...

After the last 2 weeks and worrying about what may be discovered in the next 2 weeks this caught my heart...

Dealing...

Dealing with some not so fun things in life. As a stress eater this diet is the worst thing I could do this week! Now my question is...does a glass of this count as a fruit serving?
